Why would you adapt?

According to Darwin’s Origin of Species, it is not the most intellectual of the species that survives; it is not the strongest that survives; but the species that survives is the one that is able best to adapt and adjust to the changing environment in which it finds itself.”

Megginson, ‘Lessons from Europe for American Business’, Southwestern Social Science Quarterly (1963) 44(1): 3-13, at p. 4.

The theory of evolution describes that adaptation is built in, it is not a conscious effort. What if we were able to get a better view of the environment we are in, realize what we can control and collectively come up with different strategies and tactics.

Make it a conscious effort to not blindly continue but to move forward to the goals we set for ourselves. It is my belief that people and teams are already very well equipped to create a shared mental model. By sharing and improving this model they will grow the information needed to come up with different strategies and tactics to deal with any challenges.

Strategies and tactics will, even (especially) the less successful ones, will at the very least grow and enhance our shared mental model. Some of them will noticeable move us towards our goals, some will not.

I strongly believe there is not 1 Strategy or Tactic that will be successful for all or most teams. Every context, every team and every team member is different so there will always be adaptations.

That does not mean there is not a lot to learn (steal even (like a magpie)) out there but I believe the true value is in the collectively uncovering, deciding and then implementing of your adaptation.

That is where I want to contribute, find better ways to adapt. As a team. together and out in the open.
